Earthquake Relief

When the Earthquake hit on Jan 12, 2010, Mission of Hope’s response to the disaster was immediate. Within twenty minutes we were treating earthquake victims in our clinic, and within 24 hours we were providing food and shelter to thousands in need.

In the first year after the earthquake Mission of Hope was able to:

  • Deliver over 15 million meals
  • Begin feeding 50,000 children a day
  • Treat 27,000 patients at the Clinic of Hope
  • Perform 266 orthopedic and plastic surgeries
  • Provide 75 prosthetic limbs
  • Construct 18 village homes
  • Start construction on building a 500 home community
  • Build a patient ward and medical storage facility
  • Expand the School of Hope to include over 2,500 students
  • Equip over 200 family farmers with agricultural training
  • See over 1,000 people make first-time commitments to follow Jesus

We have set out not only to provide immediate relief, but also to assist in future recovery, ultimately promoting a re-birth of the country that we love so much. Mission of Hope is playing an active role in the rebuilding and recovery of this nation.

Emergency Medical Care

Mission of Hope is located in Haiti, and thus we were able to immediately respond after the earthquake struck. Our clinic saw approximately 200 - 250 people a day for the first several days following the quake. Overall, the Clinic of Hope treated over 27,000 patients in the first year following the earthquake, with 7,900 of those being earthquake trauma cases.

Prosthetics Lab

In response to the earthquake, Mission of Hope began a prosthetics lab to help the many amputees throughout Haiti. At this facility, patients receive prosthetic limbs as well as much needed physiotherapy. To learn more, please visit our prosthetics page.

Home Construction

In June 2010, Mission of Hope began a project called MOH 500. The goal is to build 500 new homes for families in the next two years. The homes will be given to families that lost their homes during the earthquake. We are excited to get this project moving forward as so many people in our area and all over Haiti are living in tents or temporary shelters. To learn more, please visit our MOH 500 page.

Afternoon School

As of October 2010, an afternoon school was started at the School of Hope, expanding our enrollment to over 2,500 students. Many of the new students were children that moved to our area after the earthquake.

Nutrition Program

After the earthquake, the need for our nutrition program was vital. In 2010, Mission of Hope delivered over 15 million meals, averaging over 100,000 meals a day immediately following the quake. Currently, we continue to help feed over 50,000 children a day in schools and orphanages throughout Haiti.
